💡Did you know?

✨ The station was designed by Charles Walter Clark.

✨ Other interesting facts: It became the eastern terminus of the Metropolitan Line in 1941.

✨ Other interesting facts: The construction of the station was on the site of a plague pit behind St. Botolph’s Aldgate, which contains an estimated 1,000 bodies. On that note, on 2004, July 7, one of four suicide bombers in terrorist attacks struck a C-stock Circle line train from Liverpool Street near Aldgate, killing seven passengers.

✨ Aldgate Station is notable for its role in the Sherlock Holmes story “The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans,” where the body of a clerk with stolen submarine plans was found on its tracks, sparking Holmes’ curiosity about the lack of a ticket. This station also makes appearances in John Creasey’s detective novel “Gideon’s Day” and films like “Four in the Morning” (1965) and “V for Vendetta” (2006).

🏘 According to the HM Land Registry (12 October 2023), the average house price (over the last year) around the Aldgate station area was £736,655. However, if you consider renting, there are in between a £20,583 PCM (for a three-bedroom with en-suites and breath-taking views penthouse apartment) and a £200 (for a garage).
